How to do Screen Dumps for your blog

How to Capture Everything on Your Computer's Screen

This poster is ready to print out and use with your students to help them enhance their blogs.

The Text from the Poster

A screen dump is a 'snapshot' of everything on your computer's screen i.e. you capture the whole screen & then you 'crop' the image to only include the bits you want.

Screen dumps are an ideal way to capture images from: Artrage 2, Inkscape, Lego Digital Designer, Anim8or, Google Sketchup or an Internet site that allows copying.

How to do it:

1. Work on your digital image in your software of choice.

2. Press the 'Print Screen' button on your keyboard when you have your image looking good enough to show the world.

3. Open Paint.NET

4. Press Ctrl + V to paste the screen image into Paint.NET

5. Use the 'Getting Your Image Ready for Blogmeister' procedure to optimize your graphic.

Tips & Tricks:

  • Demonstrate the procedure once on an data projector.
  • Demonstrate the procedure to small groups on single computers.
  • Point out that procedural texts are read step by step.
  • Ensure this procedure is kept in a book and the students take it with them when they blog.
  • Laminate this poster and stick it up next to the computers for those that forget their own procedures.
  • Mention where they can download a colour version of the poster. They like that :)
