Tips and Tricks to STOP ADWARE |
Dear
World, In
my job I'm always encouraging teachers and students to experiment with free software
but I always mention to them that it is important to cover yourself against Adware.
Adware is software that displays advertising while you are using a particular
program. Some adware 'hijacks' a webpage's real sponsors and replaces them with
bogus (often inappropriate to say the least) ads.
I run a piece
of free software on my laptop from time to time called Adaware. It often
discovers adware on my system and deals with it quickly and effectively. This
software has rectified many of my students' and teachers' really annoying computer
problems. deas
for classroom activities: *
Set a homework research task on adware. What is it? What can it do? Why is
it a problem? Are the people who develop this software really criminals?
Why or why not? * Design a poster for your room that tells of the dangers
of adware. * Display posters around your computers about adware. *
Find a testimonial of a person who has been a victim of adware e.g.
I once used a piece of free software that did a great job, but unknown to me,
it placed a line of code on all my webpages that was an ad for another site that
had software on it that I couldn't possibly support. The
moral here is that it is not hard to protect yourself from adware ;) Just download
Adaware and run it from time to time. |
